CHEERS NOW 2014

Had a cracking weekend with The Cowtown in Nottingham and Manchester, with a super special cameo by Thee Fists on Friday too. Thanks to everyone who came and partied as we tentatively tried out some of the new songs.

That's all from us for the year in terms of gigs and generally appearing in public (though Simmo will be hawking Christmas Trees at the Thompson Bros on Haydn Road, Sherwood for the next few weekends if you want to tousle his beard. Yes, we're broke after splurging all our money in the studio). We're now putting the finishing touches to the album and will print some news about what it's called, what songs are on it and when it's coming out on Hello Thor Records in due course. Better go, we've got masters to listen to...

MANCHESTER IS MY KINDA TOWN

Well hey, it was nice to be in the NME and see so many inspiring friends and like-minded musicians in thoughtful and well-written pieces this week. By the way, the extremely talented Irene Choudhury took the photo of us in my old house.

And if you're after physical copies of our music, you're best heading off to Hello Thor's online shop as we live in far too chaotic circumstances to be held responsible for things like packing up and sending off records within a reasonable time period.

But in even more exciting news, we're heading back to one of our favourite cities on Saturday 22nd November to continue the party we'll start in Nottingham the night before. Yus, Cantaloupe will be returning to Manchester after what feels like an eternity, alongside our good buddies Cowtown, courtesy of the ever-brilliant Bad Uncle. This double-header of gigs will be our last in 2014 as we prepare to unleash our debut LP in early 2015 and an early opportunity to check out some new songs!

Bad Uncle Ben sez:

SATURDAY 22nd NOVEMBER 2014

"They're back!!!

"Cantaloupe and COWTOWN return to Manchester after what feels like an eternity to smash your faces clean off with their fruity musicianship and sheer danceability.

"The kind folk at Travelling Man have once again allowed us back in their shop to put on an amazing intimate show for these guys.

"Limited capacity so please come early to avoid disappointment.

"£3 suggested minimum donation. Donations over £3 will receive a special gift.

"BYOB so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to pay your way.

"DON'T BE A DICK OR ELSE."

Poster on its way soon. Here's the Facebook link: https://www.facebook.com/events/1527151990865287/

HI MUM, WE'RE IN THE NME

Dunno who gave 'em the nod for this, but it's very nice to see Gringo Records get a mention and to be listed alongside our good friends Kagoule, Fists & Kogumaza as well as the lovely Sleaford Mods lads. And to see our beatific faces above the line "sexiest, macho". Oh, wait.

AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A HELLO THOR PARTY

On Saturday 22nd November, in Nottingham...

HELLO THOR AND THE MUSIC EXCHANGE PRESENT:
An evening of swish pop bangers

CANTALOUPE (Hello Thor, Nottingham)
A rare live outing and only their second Nottingham show this year. Experimental pop for middle aged public servants. Kosmische synths and tidy grooves tied together by playfulness and wonder. They'll be playing a bunch of new stuff from their forthcoming debut album.

FISTS (Hello Thor, Nottingham)
Fists have all but disappeared from Nottingham's live music scene over the last year, leaving a void that none can fill. Calling them an exceptional indie rock band would be accurate but sounds far less inspiring than their live performances are. Bits of garage and rockabilly and 90s US lo-fi, sure, but really Fists are just Fists. Thank fuck they're back.

COWTOWN (Audacious Art Experiment, Leeds)
Post-punk/electro-pop joy. Talking Heads without the art school wankery; Devo but focussed entirely on dizzyingly good vibes. The most party band since the B52s. PARTY.

£5 adv - tickets available from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/292984.
Tickets also available from The Music Exchange with no booking fee!

LIVERPOOL PSYCH FEST - SAT 27 SEPTEMBER

What's that? We're playing the same day as GOAT, WHITE HILLS, GRUMBLING FUR, ANTHROPROPHH and a bazillion other great bands? As Bob Evans says it, you bet your sweet ass we are.

P.S. Yes, we have spent the summer locked away in the studio working on a debut LP... More on that soon!

IT'S ALBUM TIME

Ho! So, a couple of months ago we realised that we had far too many songs in development than we knew what to do with. So we had an idea: why not actually get around to doing an album proper? With this in mind, we've cleared the touring schedule and will be concentrating on finishing up a good 40-odd minutes of material and laying it down with uber-producer and First Love empresario Pete Fletcher this summer. We'll be posting demos regularly to Soundcloud every few weeks as the year progresses and here are two that we've already stuck up there. Dig in and enjoy.

BRADFORD THREADFEST

Wow, Nissnenmondai? Grey Hairs? Phillip Jeck? Galaxians? Rattle? Consider us excited and honoured to be on this bill! This will be the first day of a short jaunt around the UK. It's all downhill from here.

SEXEH BWOY

Cantaloupe are honoured to have been asked by The Music Exchange to support our dear friend Jean Elliot Senior at Nottingham Contemporary on Friday 7th March. It will be our first gig of 2014. And it's a free show! What's not to like?
